Brunnera macrophylla

Brunnera macrophylla is a hardy herbaceous clump forming perennial. It has large heart shaped leaves and produces sprays of blue flowers in spring which closely resemble forget me not flowers.

The Brunnera is an excellent Full Shade plant and with the right conditions will form an attractive ground cover. Ideal conditions are a Moisture-retentive, humus-rich soil although can be vigorous even in Dry conditions. Excellent planted in drifts in the woodland garden.

The Brunnera is native to Caucas mountains [Roughly speaking - the border of Russia and Gorgia], where it enjoys rich soil and cool but humid air conditions.

Propogate brunnera by dividing in the spring. The plant will also self seed with any unwanted seedlings easily moved or removed. Exposure to too much sun can cause variageted varieties to revert to plain green. These should be cut back to the base. Once established the brunnera is largely a trouble free plant.

Flowers can also be cut for indoor use.
