Helenium is a genus of about 40 herbaceous flowering plants native to Central and North America. It belongs to the daisy family, Asteraceae and is closely related to Rudbeckia and Echinacea Purpurea. Helenium get their name from the Greek word "helios" meaning sun and it's in Full Sun that the plant will thrive. Helenium are suitable for the middle or back of the mixed border in combination with perennials such as Rudbeckia, Dahlias and ornamental grasses.

Commonly known as Sneezeweed from its use by native Americans and early settlers who dried it's leaves to make medicinal snuff to cure head colds and clear nasal passages. Research has found Helenalin, a lactone, to have significant anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects.
